Terms of Service

PlanPhD is an AI-powered career planning tool designed for people with PhDs who are exploring careers beyond academia. The service provides personalized weekly action plans, an AI advisor for career guidance, and structured exercises to help you build career transition skills.

PlanPhD is not a substitute for professional career counseling, therapy, legal advice, or financial advice. The plans, suggestions, and conversations generated by our AI advisor are informational and educational in nature. You should use your own judgment when making career decisions.

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account. Each person should have only one account. You must provide a valid email address for authentication. Accounts created with false information may be suspended.

PlanPhD Individual costs $12 per month. Payment is taken at checkout and then on the same day each month.

Your subscription renews automatically. It continues month to month, and we charge the card on file each month, until you cancel it. There is no fixed term and no cancellation fee.

How to cancel. Go to Profile → Account Settings → Manage Subscription. That opens the Stripe billing portal, where you can cancel in one step. You can also email us and we will cancel it for you. Cancelling stops all future charges. You keep access until the end of the month you have already paid for.

Refunds. We do not automatically refund the unused part of a month you have already paid for. If the service did not work, or you were charged in a way you did not expect, email us within 30 days of the charge and we will refund it. We would rather refund you than keep money you feel you did not get value for.

Price changes. If we change the price, we will email you at least 30 days before it applies to you. The new price only takes effect on a renewal after that notice. If you do not want the new price, cancel before that renewal.

Failed payments. If a payment fails, Stripe retries it. If it keeps failing, your access drops back to the free level. Your data is not deleted when this happens.

Payment is processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number. If you reach PlanPhD through a university licence, your institution pays and none of this section applies to you.

When using PlanPhD, you agree not to:

• Attempt to extract harmful, offensive, or inappropriate content from the AI advisor
• Circumvent rate limits or other technical safeguards
• Use the service for purposes unrelated to career development
• Share your account credentials with others
• Interfere with the service's operation or other users' access

Action plans, career advice, and exercise feedback are generated by AI. While we design our system to provide helpful and relevant guidance, AI-generated content may not always be accurate, complete, or appropriate for your specific situation. Always apply your own critical judgment.

You own the data you provide to PlanPhD. By using the service, you grant us a license to use your data to provide and improve the service. For full details on how we handle your data, see our Privacy Policy.

You can export all of your data or delete your account at any time through your profile settings. Account deletion permanently removes your profile, plans, conversations, and artifacts, and cannot be undone. If you have paid us, we keep the transaction record itself — date, amount, and the email tied to the payment — because tax and accounting rules require it. That record is not used for anything else. Deleting your account does not cancel an active subscription; cancel it first, or email us and we will do both.

PlanPhD is provided on an "as is" basis. We strive to keep the service available but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue features with reasonable notice when possible.

If you access PlanPhD through an institutional license, your university's terms of use may also apply. Your institution's license grants access to the service but does not give institutional administrators access to your individual data.

We may update these terms as the service evolves. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of PlanPhD after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
